A blood pressure monitor obviously measures your blood pressure. A person with low or high blood pressure may experience heart problems. There are two kinds of these machines. One kind has the pump. The other one, as shown in the video, is automatic. The automatic ones are way more common today, and most hospitals and clinics use these. A blood pressure monitor usually gives two numbers. One is the systolic number, and the other is the diastolic number. The systolic number is the reading that tells when the heart muscle is contracting, therefore creating more pressure, so the systolic number is always higher than the diastolic number.  The diastolic number, or the bottom number, indicates the pressure in the arteries when the heart rests between beats. Also, the monitor may also tell your heart rate. Different cuffs are used for different age groups. The different groups are infant, child, and adult. Once the cuff is on, it gets tighter and tighter because pressure is being extracted.

Hemoglobin is a red protein responsible for transporting oxygen in the blood of vertebrates. Basically, your hemoglobin is your iron level because there's so much iron contained in hemoglobin. The hemoglobin machine checks your hemoglobin count. This machine scares many kids because it requires the kids to prick their fingers. The machine needs a slide inserted into it with a drop of the patient's blood. Children should know that the needle is very very small, and it does not hurt. At the most, it seems like something pinched the tip of your finger. A normal hemoglobin level is between 12 and 14. If your level is below 12, then you're anemic, and you have to take iron pills everyday. Checking hemoglobin very is important.

This is what I have learned over the past few months at a pediatrician's office. I hope you can learn as much as I have.
